MOHA Research Centre and the newspaper “Kathimerini” presented the exhibition “Caricatures”. A selected series of sketches by the caricaturists Dimitris Hantzopoulos, Andreas Petroulakis and Ilias Makris were displayed at the Mohammed Ali’s Museum. The opening of the exhibition took place on Saturday, 21 January 2023, in the presence of the caricaturists and journalists of “Kathimerini” newspaper. 

In the printed and digital edition of “Kathimerini”, the sketches of the three caricaturists always gain the interest and preference of the readers. For years, the three of them have been offering laughter and satire in a harsh and complicated reality. Their compositions, beyond humour and political commentary, have a multi-layered reading and artistic interest; they are paintings in miniature.

Dimitris Hantzopoulos was born in 1956 in Patras. He studied physics at the University of Athens and animation at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver, Canada. Since 2015 he has been working as a caricaturist for the “Kathimerini” newspaper. He has published many books at the “Agra” Publications.

Andreas Petroulakis was born in 1958 in Chania and studied medicine. He is a self-taught caricaturist. Since 2000 he has been working for “Kathimerini”. He has collaborated with many newspapers and magazines, and has participated in many group and solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

Ilias Makris was born in 1956 in Athens. He studied painting and printmaking in Berlin and Braunschweig, Germany. Since 1983 he has been professionally engaged in political caricature. He has worked for the newspapers “Ethnos”, “To Vima”, and since 1988 he has been a permanent contributor to the newspaper “Kathimerini”. Albums of his caricatures have been published.
