MOHA Research Center organized the conference “Augmented reality (ICE) and recording of the cultural heritage of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace”, which took place in the Imaret on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
During the meeting, local institutions from the fields of culture, tourism and education were invited, the cooperating institutions of the ICE Project presented the results of their synergy and discussed the ways of viewing and presenting the exhibits in museums, schools and tourism businesses of the present and future, with an emphasis on the exploitation of the cultural heritage of the places.
The region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace stands out for its rich cultural and long-standing social and religious coexistence of people with diverse linguistic, cultural and religious identities. The ICE (Innovative Cultural Experience) Project https://ice.web.auth.gr, in its effort to highlight this rich culture of the place, brings together researchers, technologists and scientists with the aim of recording, documenting and highlighting the tangible and intangible heritage of the region.
Contrary to the usual navigation applications, which usually have static content, ICE designs and implements an innovative system of highlighting cultural heritage, providing a comprehensive exhibit presentation app, with dynamic content for visitors, children or adults, tourists or researchers.
The project was held in collaboration with the MOHA Research Center and the Departments of Theology and Physics (Electronics and Computers Department) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Laboratory of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Research of the Democritus University of Thrace, the Laboratory of Advanced Educational Technologies and Mobile Applications (AETMA) of the International University of Greece, and the company PRISMA.
The project was implemented within the framework of the Action “RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE” and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the call RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE.
