On the occasion of the International Remembrance Day of the Holocaust victims (January 27), MOHA Research Center started the presentation of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center’s exhibition Shoah, How was it Humanly possible? at the Mohammed Ali’s Museum in Kavala. The action took place under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religions.

The exhibition deals with major historical aspects of the Holocaust, beginning with Jewish life in pre-Holocaust Europe and ending with the liberation of Nazi concentration and extermination camps across the continent and the remarkable return to life of the survivors. The panels feature explanatory texts, interspersed with personal stories of the victims, quotes, original photographs and images of relevant artifacts.

The exhibition was dedicated to the Jews of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, who were transported to the Treblinka concentration camp in March 4th, 1943. Nearly 1,500 Greek Jews from Kavala were killed there.

Established in 1953, Yad Vashem is Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Jews who were murdered; honoring Jews who fought against their Nazi oppressors and Gentiles who selflessly aided Jews in need; and researching the phenomenon of the Holocaust in particular and genocide in general, with the aim of avoiding such events in the future.
